When it comes to modern music, many people agree that the music of today is in leaps and bounds far better than the music of the 90s or early 2000's.  In contradiction, or substantial truth however, many believe that the music of today is nothing in comparison to that of the early works of old artists today still trying to remain relevant, or even reinvent themselves.  It's a pity that today's music lacks the ferocity and other traits of older music.  Hip hop for example, has taken a turn, potentially for the worse.  Where name dropping tracks were so common in the Biggie and Pac days, its a surprise and oddity when a newer artist such as Kendrick Lamar does so in an age where name dropping has almost ceased to exist.  The styles of old are becoming more and more unpracticed in these modern days as I've noticed, and its a damn shame.  Where many people appreciate today's music more and more, I think back on artists such as Jay-Z and Eminem, who where rap and hip-hop heavyweights in the early 2000's.  I noticed how they're not what they use to be, and found that my interest in what they produce lessens every time I hear their newer music.  I reminisce on how great their music use to be, and shake my head at whats its become over time.
What was great back in the day is not whats truly great today.  Many people flock to rappers or artists such as Kanye West, Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz.  Many people play their music and gawk at how "great" they are, but I just don't see it.  If I see anything, I see that music has taken a turn for the worse, and in order for music to be as great and as consistent as it was when I was younger, the newer age needs more artists like Kendrick Lamar, a true product of real hip-hop/rap music.
